Also known as video game addiction, gaming addiction is a purposed form of psychological addiction composed of a compulsive use of computer and video games. It is related to internet addiction disorder. It is still a matter of argument whether one can become addicted to games. However, there are people who report that their loved ones have been sucked into a game, suddenly isolating themselves, focusing almost entirely on the game instead of real life events, and preferring to play the game instead of actual personal contacts.
Gaming Addiction Symptoms:
Despite its being still disputed, gaming addiction is argued that its symptoms would be quite similar to that of any other addiction. Common gaming addiction symptoms are:
- Playing games more often or for longer periods of time than was intended.
- Continuation of games in spite of knowing that a recurrent or persistent psychological, social, physical, occupational, or family problem is likely to have been caused or exacerbated by playing games for an extended period of time.
- Frequent talks about the game in daily life.
- There are unsuccessful efforts or a persistent desire to cut down or control game play time.
- Because of game playing important recreational, family, occupational, or social activities are either reduced or completely given up.
- A great deal of time is spent performing game-related activities such as posting on game forums, researching game tips/hacks, looking at fan art sites, gold farming, purchasing game books, etc.
